The foundation of the foreign trade company METAL-IMPORT S.A.R in 1948 was an objective necessity generated by the realities of the country’s after-war economy. It played an outstanding part during the period of reconstruction of the country by carrying out the import operations meant to provide the raw materials, finished products, machine-tools, industrial equipment for the national economy.

      In the course of time, the activity of METAL-IMPORT S.A.R. grew and diversified steadily. In 1950, from this company there branched off, taking over the trading of the respective products, MASINIMPORT, ENERGOIMPORT, TEHNOIMPORT and, later, INDUSTRIALIMPORT. Thus, the activity object of METAL-IMPORT S.A.R became the international trade with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, raw materials and semi-products.

      Starting with 1957, our company became well-known on the world market not only as a great importer of steel and non-ferrous metals, but also as exporter of pig-iron, blooms, steel ingots.

      During 1966-1973, METAL-IMPORT S.A.R., as a result of the putting into operation of several production facilities of the steel plants, steadily enhanced its export activity, which in 1973 led to the necessity to change the name of the trade company into METALIMPORTEXPORT.

      During this period, the export structure improved considerably. Thus, the following goods start to be available for export: heavy, medium and thin steel sheet, hot / cold rolled coils, galvanized sheet / coils, re-inforcing steel, rolled wire, welding electrodes, industrial chains, nails, welded and seamless steel tubes, etc.
